SICK and THE SON on Episode #445

Hugh Jackman and Zen McGrath sit on a couch laughing and watching TV in the movie The Son.Welcome to a wacky week on Spoilerpiece. You’re gonna hear hotter takes than usual when we discuss SICK (2:42), a new horror-thriller from producer and co-writer Kevin Williamson. Is it like SCREAM? Is it something new? Who’s to say what’s new in Earth’s bizarre new cinematic landscape? The second movie is THE SON (25:26), starring Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern. We can’t say with certainty – because it’s only January – but this film may have afforded a couple Spoilerpiecers their most visceral reactions of the year. But like we said, it’s January. Hearts and minds can change! Don’t forget to check out this week’s Patreon exclusive: We talk about the 1973 film PAPER MOON, starring Ryan and Tatum O’Neal.

Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Cailee Spaeny, and Gideon Adlon in Zoe Lister-Jones' The Craft: Legacy

We kick off this week with OVER THE MOON (4:00), a Dreamworks animated musical on Netflix about a Chinese girl who travels to the moon. Next, we discuss Jacob Chase’s horror film COME PLAY (17:03), starring Gillian Jacobs, John Gallagher Jr., and Azhy Robertson, about a creepy monster that can get you through your electronic devices. Then, we dig into Josh Ruben’s SCARE ME (30:42), a Shudder horror comedy about two writers (Aya Cash and Josh Ruben) telling each other scary stories. Finally, we tackle Zoe Lister-Jones’s THE CRAFT: LEGACY (42:27), the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 cult classic THE CRAFT, about four teen girls (Cailee Spaeny, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, and Gideon Adlon) and witchcraft. In this week’s Patreon bonus audio, we talk about our October poll winner, the 1986 horror film VAMP, featuring Grace Jones.
