After a weekend of horror, two tweets explain it all

Two-thirds of the Spoilerpiece Theatre podcast attended the 12-hour horror movie marathon at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Mass., over the weekend. The movies, in the order shown, were:

1. Frankenstein (1931);

2. The Lost Boys;

3. Evil Dead II;

4. Eaten Alive (shown under the title “Starlight Slaughter,” and one of the worst movies we’ve ever seen);

5. Ghoulies;

6: The Incredible Melting Man (in which a man melts for 84 minutes, and his name, “Steve,” is uttered approximately 450 times);

7. The Wicker Man.

It was a great time, and our good friend and fellow film critic Sam Cohen tweeted the following afterward:

JOHN WICK, BIRDMAN, AND THE BLUE ROOM on Episode #15

This week we talk about Keanu Reeves’ old-guy-kicking-ass movie JOHN WICK, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s BIRDMAN, and the very French THE BLUE ROOM. Tangents this week include why trailers suck, the French as a people, the Byronic hero, and lots of other stuff. Plus, Dave sings “Two Heads Are Better Than One” for a half-chorus (it’s Evan’s fault), and Kris explains how John Wick (the character) comes to violence (short version: The bad guys came at him on the WRONG day).

It’s time to talk Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall and THE JUDGE, and so much of the movie works but even more of it doesn’t. How many subplots can one film have? Well, how often can we break off into tangents (covering Van Halen, David Fincher’s body of work, how watching THE BIG LEBOWSKI is kind of like watching THE JUDGE except better, and the pros of having Evan AND Kris on this week’s episode) when discussing GONE GIRL? HOW MANY, WE ASK YOU? And somehow ANNABELLE snuck in for a moment this week, but that’s what evil dolls do.

ANNABELLE and THE TRIP TO ITALY on Episode #12

Plus, Evan and Dave have a quick chat about THE TRIP TO ITALY, the Steve Coogan/Rob Brydon flick (and the sequel to THE TRIP). And who is that at the start of the episode? Is that Dr. Emmett Brown? Why, yes! We think it is!
