Pixar’s INSIDE OUT, DOPE, and ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL on Episode #49

The characters of Pixar's INSIDE OUT

The perfectly cast characters of INSIDE OUT:  Anger, Fear, Joy, Disgust, and Sadness.

Charlie Nash of Movie Mezzanine, Edge on the Net, All Things Horror, and Cinematic Essential joins Evan and Kris this week to take on INSIDE OUT, DOPE, and ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL. The guys start by bitching about jerks who spoil GAME OF THRONES before they share why Pixar’s film INSIDE OUT moved them to tears. All three enjoyed it so much that they can’t think of a single bad thing to say about it. Next up, Kris and Charlie summarize DOPE, while attempting to separate its promising parts from the misfires it makes and detours it takes. Then they wrap things up with the abhorrent ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL, a picture that’s so bad it makes Kris angry for once. He and Charlie spoilerpiece what makes it so awful for Evan, which gives him some pretty awful ideas of his own for what to do with it when it comes out on DVD.

SAN ANDREAS, SAINT LAURENT, and SLOW WEST on Episode #46

Dwayne Johnson in SAN ANDREAS

The Rock knows what he’s doing in SAN ANDREAS, so just listen to him!

Longtime listener Sean Burns joins Kris and Evan as the special guest on this week’s episode! The guys talk about remakes like POINT BREAK and why one particular remake made Sean wish he was fired earlier from a gig. Kris leads things off by describing how Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fights the elements in the disaster flick SAN ANDREAS, a movie which quintuples down on bad science and plot. Then Sean spoils the trippy biopic SAINT LAURENT aka “the gay DOORS.” He couldn’t get enough of its sex, drugs, and fashion. To round out the show Evan and Sean spill the beans on the Michael Fassbender western SLOW WEST. Bon Jovi references, tales of an epic last half hour, and comparisons to both pizza and sex feature prominently in this segment before Sean and Kris do some last-minute griping about ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and PITCH PERFECT 2 on Episode #44

Tom Hardy in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

What the hell is that thing on Tom Hardy’s face in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD?

This week Evan debates wearing a G-string while discussing MAGIC MIKE with Kris. Sadly, Dave has a last-minute change of plans and can’t make it, leaving Kris and Evan quite literally to their own devices. This leads to some slight audio issues (sorry if you hear a minor buzz at points), but the guys soldier on to talk about how holy-shit, fuckin’ amazing MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is before they explore the strange similarities between PITCH PERFECT 2 and THE WARRIORS. Finally, they end up randomly referencing Joe Piscopo in JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY.Once…just once.

THE BOY NEXT DOOR, STILL ALICE, CAKE, AND SONG ONE on Episode #28

"Hey, Jennifer...I think this movie we're shooting may actually be really bad..."

“Hey, Jennifer…I think this movie we’re shooting may actually be really bad…”

HEY-O! It’s an especially dirty episode this week as we tackle movies with explicit sex and plots that make us swear in disbelief. That’s right, gang! It’s THE BOY NEXT DOOR, the Jennifer Lopez comeback vehicle that, if there’s any justice, will soon be playing at midnight shows alongside THE ROOM. Kris and Dave could NOT believe how awful it is – and they highly recommend it. Plus, Evan lays out the coma-filled grief-sex feature SONG ONE, and Kris explains that, in many ways, STILL ALICE and CAKE are the same movie. Plus, we talk about LAW & ORDER: SVU, and we’d love to know from you what movies we should commentary.

INTERSTELLAR, BIG HERO 6, and (whoops) MORE HORROR on Episode #17

interstellar_a

We cover a lot of ground this week. Christopher Nolan’s INTERSTELLAR! BIG HERO 6! And Evan brings up that last week we forgot to talk about GHOULIES (which screened at the Halloween horror overnighter that our guest Deirdre Crimmins and Dave talked about). Plus, we talk about Robert Zemeckis and his crappy motion capture movies; Eddie Money songs; Evan cracks himself up; Kris mentions that he does research; and Dave tries to remember the theme song to the Saturday morning cartoon DROIDS.

THE EQUALIZER and THE ZERO THEOREM on Episode #11

Denzel Washington

Hey, peeps! It’s Friday and time to spoil the snot out of new releases! This week it’s Terry Gilliam’s regrettable THE ZERO THEOREM and the Dave-and-Kris-loved-it Denzel Washington kill-fest THE EQUALIZER. Plus, on this episode: TANGENTS. But it wouldn’t be Spoilerpiece without tangents, right?

TUSK, A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES, and THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU on Episode #10

TUSK

Big day on Spoilerpiece Theatre! Kris waxes animalistic about TUSK; Evan reveals that the animal he identifies with most is a turtle; Dave then brings up ENTOURAGE, which makes Kris nuts; Evan gives the deets on THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU; and Kris and Dave talk about the many finer and many lesser points of A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES. This episode is brought to you by BIG-ASS TANGENTS: When you want to get somewhere…but not yet.

THE ONE I LOVE, THE LAST OF ROBIN HOOD, and THE CONGRESS on Episode #8

TheOneILove_still5_ElisabethMoss_MarkDuplass

It’s a goddamn bumper crop of movies on Spoilerpiece Theatre this week. We’ve got THE LAST OF ROBIN HOOD which only Kris has seen, THE CONGRESS, which Dave and Kris saw (and kind of wish they hadn’t), and Evan saw THE ONE I LOVE and delights in spoiling the hell out of it. In fact, this many be the first case of spoiling in history that got Dave and Kris to reeeeeally want to see a movie. There are also plenty of tangents and some anti-Connecticut sentiments throughout.

the-purge-anarchy

Some of the creepers in THE PURGE: ANARCHY

In the first episode of Spoilerpiece Theatre, Evan, Kris, and Dave explain the philosophy behind the show (F.U. spoilers), and then get into ripping THE PURGE: ANARCHY and SEX TAPE with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel new assholes. Then they shower love on SNOWPIERCER and maybe your mom.
